I found the support groups great fun and felt so much better after

Claire is 55 and lives in Broadstairs. She has been caring for her husband Peter who has early-onset dementia since 2017.

“Peter’s Alzhiemer’s is at the moderate stage. At the moment, it’s more about keeping him busy, stimulating him and providing reassurance. He is able to do some activities of daily living but on the worst days needs all his needs met. Our lives have changed  beyond anything we would have expected. I’m a nurse, but have not been able to carrying on working. The changes come in waves , they are small and imperceptible at first but bit by bit have eroded our quality of life . The disease does make you change your priorities. I came across Carers’ Support on line and go to their support groups. I find them very supportive and great fun. It’s nice to meet people in the same boat and I found I felt so much better after going. My advice if you’re looking after someone with dementia would be to seize the day, make the most of life and get in touch with Carers’ Support East Kent.”
