Have you ever wanted a museum all to yourself? The wonderful team at the Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum are going to do just that. They’ll be opening the doors especially for you special few where you can explore the exhibits at your leisure and experience what it was like to fly a Spitfire in the amazing simulator, equipped with authentic Spitfire controls.
This life size cockpit setup is the closest you will ever come to flying this legendary aircraft without stepping inside the real thing.
Using authentic WWII controls, visitors will be able to take off, fly and land a Mk XVI Spitfire whilst sitting in a realistic cockpit!
Set up in the Spitfire Hall, you even have the real Spitfire as a backdrop as you fly.
Full instruction is given, from one of our qualified instructors, who will be on hand throughout your flight to help and support you.
Please note that there are some access restrictions with the simulator:
- Maximum weight of 18 stone (110kg) and minimum height of 5′ (152cm). Maximum width at shoulders 24” (60cm).
- Please note there is no disabled access thus a reasonable degree of fitness and mobility is required to climb IN and OUT of the cockpit.
Full activity details and meeting instructions will be provided to attendees prior to the visit.
This event is available for our registered Carers. Numbers are limited and a draw will take place for activities that are oversubscribed. If this activity proves particularly popular, we will endeavour to repeat to enable more to enjoy the experience.
