Carers Week Special Treat
Thank you, Carers Support East Kent, for organising treats during Carers Week for all the members who regularly attend the support group meetings.
The group at Hawkinge had chosen to go to a café in Folkestone for cake and coffee, but at virtually the last minute, the owner of the café had to close for the day in order to carry out important maintenance work.
Louise Sawkins (our group leader) and her daughter stepped into the breach and put on a wonderful spread at the Lighthouse Church hall. Normally this is a rather cold and uninspiring room, but they had decorated the tables with pretty tablecloths, plates and napkins, which gave the room a homely, warm feel They provided plates of sandwiches, cheese scones, cream scones and mini chocolate cakes and served oodles of tea and coffee. Eight carers enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and chatted together for the whole hour and a half. All too soon it was time to finish but Louise had remembered to bring along some “doggy bags” so the group were able to take home something for their cared-for relatives or friends.
Thank you once again Carers Support for giving us all a much needed and appreciated break!
