The Mayor’s fundraising will focus on supporting Young Adult Carers to get a break from their caring responsibilities as part of our Time for Me Appeal.

Cllr Chris Turner, Mayor of Deal said:

“When I visited recently I met with Shona a Young Adult Carer. I am hoping that the funds raised can help the charity’s support work with those young adults in Deal like Shona, who care for significant others, enabling them to attend social events and support groups and to enjoy some time away from home, vital for their own well-being.”

Shona Kinal (24) looks after their partner who has a brain disorder called FND, meaning she is unable to walk and experiences seizures.

“I looked after my partner full time when her condition started and it was a real struggle. No time to relax or have a break. I’m now able to get out for a 20-minute jog every day and a friend or relative stays with her when I’m at my part-time work but I do worry about her when I’m not there. It’s great the Mayor has decided to support us younger Carers to get a break. It would be so nice to even get out for a coffee and meet other people.”
