Please join Carers Trust’s internet safety partner Get Safe Online for a one-hour online workshop to help you protect yourself, those you provide care for and others you love, from the multitude of harms we find when going online.
Taking place at 6.30pm on Thursday 9th October, it will be presented by Liz Stanton MBE, Get Safe Online’s Senior Trainer and Family Protection Manager who is also a former Police Officer. Liz will cover the following topics in language that’s easy to understand, describing the issues you might find and recommending practical tips that anyone can follow. Carers Trust | Get Safe Online
Everyday issues like impersonation scams (such as phishing emails, WhatsApp messages falsely claiming to be from family members and phone calls impersonating a business or other organisation you trust) and identity theft. The outcomes to the victim range from embarrassment to financial losses and true trauma. Liz will cover this topic not only in the context of your or your care receiver’s phone or computer, but also where these are shared between you.
With Black Friday / Cyber Monday and Christmas just around the corner, it’s a busy time for online fraudsters impersonating legitimate sellers. Whether you’re thinking of buying gifts, tickets, trainers or new tech, Liz will have some top tips to help protect you from purchase fraud. And last but not least, with the current tidal wave of fake news, misinformation and disinformation out there, Liz will discuss ways to check that what you’re reading online is true or false.
